Austenitic stainless steels are amongst the most widely used classes of metals. Primarily, many austenitic alloys such as Stainless Steel 316Ti Seamless Pipe are preferred over carbon steels for several reasons. The principal reason for their use is corrosion resistance. For a piping system to survive in environments, corrosion resistance is an integral property. With corrosion resistance higher than grade 304, the ASTM A312 TP 316TI pipe delivers excellent performance
Usually, the use of grade 316 Ti stainless steel is associated with high temperature applications. In this alloy, the content of carbon is reduced and is substituted with titanium. Lowering the carbon content causes changes in the performance of the alloy. But the addition of titanium in the alloy of 316ti stainless steel pipe improves several characteristics including its mechanical strength and its ability to withstand elevated temperature. The other important role titanium plays in the alloy is by acting as a stabilizing agent, particularly when the manufacturer is required to produce a SS UNS S31703 Welded Pipe. Unlike seamless pipes, which as the name suggests are produced without a seam, the welded variety is produced by welding a plate with the use of a longitudinal seam. During welding operations, the presence of excess carbon in stainless steels causes sensitization of the grain boundary by the formation of carbon precipitate. The result of this phenomenon causes intergranular corrosion in regular stainless steel pipes. However, when titanium substitutes carbon, the resultant precipitate on the SA 312 tp316ti welded Pipe is a titanium one. Titanium carbides do not in any way promote sensitization at the grain boundary, and therefore, the welded DIN 1.4571 SS 316Ti Pipes do not get decayed.
