The intention of designing a super duplex stainless steel was to satisfy the problems that rose from demanding applications. Applications such as chemical processing, petrochemical, and marine engineering are highly demanding applications that demand an equally high quality product such as 2507 Super Duplex Sheet & Plate. This alloy is able to fulfill the exceptional strength and corrosion resistance requirements set by these applications. The ASTM A240 Type 2507 Sheet has exceptional resistance to chloride ion stress related corrosion cracking, making it perfect for not only marine engineering applications but also for freshwater and high velocity marine environments.
Besides having a high thermal conductivity, the Super Duplex 2507 Plate has a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Along with having a mixed austenite and ferrite microstructure, the Saf 2507 Plate has a chemistry that gives it its characteristic high strength. With inclusions of elements such as chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen at high levels, the 2507 stainless steel plate is a product that performs well in high seas, particularly because it has excellent resistance to pitting. The Super Duplex 2507 Plate is also resistant to crevice corrosion while exhibiting good resistance to general corrosion. When compared to either stainless steel 904L or 6% moly super austenitic stainless steel, super duplex SA240 gr 2507 Coil proves to be a cost-effective alloy. Though the impact strength of super Duplex 2507 Plate is high manufacturers do not recommend using this alloy for applications that require prolong exposures to temperatures that exceed the range of 570°F, as the material is at risk of witnessing a reduction in its toughness.

2507 should be hot worked between 1875°F and 2250°F. This should be followed by a solution anneal at 1925°F minimum and a rapid air or water quench.
Most of the common stainless steel forming methods can be used for cold working 2507.
