Most austenitic stainless steels that fall under the 300 series could be given dual certification. This holds true simply because the alloy’s chemistry could undergo a minor change to yield the desired result. In the case of alloy 321, the content of carbon may be increased to change the alloy to grade SS 321H Coils. The properties associated with high carbon version of stainless steels is that they can withstand much higher temperatures. Alloy 321 H, the high carbon version contains about 0.04 – 0.10% carbon in its alloy.
Stabilized with titanium in its alloy, grade 321 does not get corroded by intergranular corrosion. At temperatures between 800 to 1500°F, the content of chromium reacts with carbon to form carbide precipitates in what is referred to as the chromium carbide precipitation range. But because the SS Werkstoff No 1.4541 Sheet has been stabilized with titanium, the alloy forms titanium carbide, which does not promote the sensitization of the grains. Alloy Stainless Steel 321 Slatting Coil is also profitable for elevated temperature operations since the alloy demonstrates better mechanical properties. Compared to austenitic stainless steel Alloy 304, the SS UNS S32100 Plates exhibits properties such as a higher creep strength as well as good stress rupture properties. The alloy offers resistance to polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking or PASCC in hydrocarbon applications such as the petroleum industry. Although the low carbon version of the Stainless Steel 321 Sheet & Plate benefit from this property. At moderate temperatures, grade 321 alloys can also be employed in halogen containing solutions such as chloride or fluoride free caustic solutions. Since the Stainless Steel 321 plate cannot be hardened by heat treatment, hardening the alloy is possible by means of cold working. Alloy 32 can be easily welded and processed by conventionally used shop fabrication systems.
