Copper alloys like CuNi 90/10 are usually preferred for marine environments. There are several reasons for the preference of the Copper Nickel 90/10 Round Bar for this particular application. Firstly, the chemical composition of the astm b466 uns c70600 Cu-Ni Rod makes up of about 90% copper. Hence, the alloy inherits a vast portion of properties from copper.
So since copper, singularly has outstanding resistance to salt water, the 90/10 Copper Nickel Bar naturally inherits its superior resistance properties. Secondly, copper has natural anti-microbial properties that make it impossible for lichen, moss, and other marine organisms to biofoul the Cupro Nickel 90/10 Flat Bar. Nickel, on the other hand, when alloyed with both elements - iron, and manganese forms a Cupro Nickel 90/10 Hexagon Bar that is extremely corrosion resistant. Though the use of iron and manganese in the alloy is in trace quantities, they none the less play minor roles in enhancing the wear resistance and corrosion resistance properties of CU-NI 90/10 RODS. Nickel also affects the color of the alloy. Nickel is silverish, and so it dilutes the pink-orange of copper when alloyed to form Cu-Ni 90 / 10 Round Bars.
