Being a highly alloyed material, 254 SMO is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that provides the application with many coveted properties. For instance, in comparison to most stainless steel alloys, the austenitic ASTM A240 UNS S31254 Sheet has a PREN value greater than 42.5. This is an indication that the material has outstanding resistance to both pitting as well as to crevice corrosion.
The 254 SMO Stainless Steel Plate, like most austenitic stainless steel, offers good weldability because of its low carbon content. But the fact that the mechanical properties of the ASTM A240 S31254 Coil are much higher than any austenitic alloy, makes it a deal breaker across several businesses. Another area that proves the SA 240 UNS S31254 Sheet is a better alloy in aggressive environments is the resistance of the material to stress corrosion cracking, which is higher than any conventional alloy. The idea behind developing the 6mo 254 SMO Coil was its resistance to marine waters and in other hostile chloride containing mediums. The 254 SMO Sheet & Plate displays good resistance to localized and general corrosion as well. In comparison to both ASTM TP316 and austenitic stainless steel alloy 904L, the 254 SMO Plate exhibits good resistance to sulphuric acid.
